Leadership is an act of submission. To be a leader means listening to all kinds of people and in all types of situations. This is the price of leadership—it’s an act of sacrifice. Leadership does not begin with authority—it begins with surrender. Those who lead well do so not by asserting their will, but by submitting it first. So leadership is part and parcel of the work of submission to God and others.
The leader who refuses to submit to God will inevitably impose himself on others. True discernment is formed in listening: to God, to His Word, and to the realities placed before us. Out of that listening, we are seeking to discern the mind of God as best we can. Leadership carries a cost because it requires laying down personal preference, control, and pride in order to walk the path God reveals.
Proverbs 3:5–6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This is a super article. I worked for a man in a small company who lived by this principal. The best boss I ever worked for he worked to serve us, and then after everyone left work, he began to do his job. A quality person, but a great example that this principal, lived out, is remarkable.
